Companies share ambitious aims for efficiency & environmental performance
Three Bridgend firms opened their doors to business leaders and the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development this week in a bid to share their aims for a low carbon future. A series of three ‘Seeing is Believing’ visits to Buy As You View, Rockwool and South Wales Police were organized by responsible business charity, Business in the Community, to highlight the work each have done to improve their environmental performance and the advantages to their bottom line and reputation.
Seeing is Believing is the flagship programme supported by The Prince of Wales to inspire and engage business leaders on responsibility issues like climate change. Graham Clarke said: “BAYV has made significant investments at a challenging time, however our efforts are already making a huge difference to our carbon reduction commitment as well as creating operational cost efficiencies. This means there really is no downside. Everyone needs to do their bit for the environment and each small step is of real importance.” .
Yorkshire Charities Benefit From BAYV Donation
In addition to Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital Charity, 5 other local charities in Yorkshire have also received cash and product donations, worth a total of £2,500, from our Community Fund. These include Help for Heroes, Angels Delight, the Phoenix Sports and Social Club and Spen Valley under 12’s football team. We have also donated an LCD TV to a group from Rotherham raising money for cancer research. Help For Heroes in the Yorkshire area, supports rehabilitation services to soldiers returning from war and received a cash donation. Phoenix Sports and Social Club in Rotherham benefited from new football kits and equipment for its semi-professional football team while Spen Valley U12’s received a donation to go towards a team trip to play in a tournament in Holland.
Buy As You View Community Support

At Buy As You View we are dedicated to making a difference to the communities in which we work. This year we have launched a company-wide Community Fund and encouraged our employees to become designated charity champions, raising money for the worthy causes that the company has committed to support. So far this year we have made donations to local youth sports teams, supporting healthy activities at grass roots level. Our colleagues tirelessly raise money for charities and worthwhile causes. In response, the company endeavours to match the funds raised by the employees
Cancer Care
Recently, a team from our South Wales warehouse completed a charity mountain climb for Breast Cancer Care and our Northern Community Champion, Darren Tait raised £3600 for Marie Curie Cancer Care as a result of organising a charity golf day. All proceeds were doubled by the company.
£3000 for Macmillan
We are delighted to have been able to offer financial support to brave twelve year old Courtney Nathaniel from Gelli in South Wales. She completed a charity walk in aid of her father who recently died from cancer to raise over £3000 for Macmillan through sponsorship and donations from friends and family. BAYV were proud to sponsor the walk and raise further funds from a dress-down fundraising day throughout their UK offices supported by our 700 colleagues.
Bowled Over
We were bowled over by a request from Alison Evans in Swansea, a customer for over 19 years, when she asked for help towards her son’s Under 15’s West Glamorgan Cricket squad who are going on tour to South Africa next year. We were able to offer a £500 contribution towards the trip.
Penybont Gateway Club
One of our longest serving customers received a donation of a 32” TV for his local community group. Mr Hooper who has been a customer of ours for thirty years contacted us for donations to the Penybont Gateway Club in Bridgend which supports people with learning difficulties.
Welbeck Welfare
Up in Yorkshire the Welbeck Welfare FC Under 10’s will stay warm on the pitch this winter thanks to a donation from our Yorkshire office which has allowed the team to buy new tracksuits to wear to training and matches for the very first time throughout the winter months. This request came from our Learning and Development Manager, David Benzie who trains with the team and has reported outstanding performances from the Under 10’s with them winning the league! Clearly the new black and white kit is doing the job.
