Paralympic hopeful receives £2,000 donation from Buy As You View

July 11, 2011

Twelve year old, Danielle Bradshaw from Hyde, Manchester, will be able to afford new prosthetics and physiotherapy treatments, thanks to leading retail and consumer finance company, Buy As You View.

Danielle, who would like to compete in the 2016 Paralympics, was born with Conjenital Dislocation of both hips and right knee, which meant that she has spent all her life in a wheelchair, until she had her leg amputated in August 2010. Since the operation, Danielle has had a walking prosthetic leg fitted to her right knee and can now walk and run like most children her age.

The Buy As You View Community Fund has donated £2,000 to Danielle, which will help fund her second carbon fibre running blade which is essential for her training. As Danielle is only twelve years old, she is still growing and needs new blades fitted regularly to keep up with her changing size.

Danielle’s determination has meant that she can now run 50 metres in 12 seconds and has been accepted onto the England Athletics Classification, which means that she is eligible for the Paralympic pathway.

Danielle’s step-dad and Buy As You View customer, Darren Quigley, said: “Seeing Danielle run has really meant the world to myself and my wife. When Danielle first spoke about having her leg amputated last year, we were a bit apprehensive, but she was determined to walk and so we wanted what was best for her. Danielle was inspired by a TV documentary which showed how soldiers wounded from war, had prosthetic limbs fitted and then returned to the front line not long after. Seeing other amputees living their lives normally, post operation, really pushed Danielle to make this life changing decision.

“The donation will be a massive help in funding her running blades as they cost £2,000 each, so we are extremely grateful to the kind support we’ve received from Buy As You View. We are really proud of our little girl and any donations are welcomed which will help her dreams come true.”

Communications manager at Buy As You View, Rachel Morris, said: “This case immediately stood out to us as a cause we’d be proud to support. Danielle has come such a long way since having her operation last August and she seems to be doing really well with her training.  It’s important to us that we support the communities in which we operate and help our customers the best we can. We wish Danielle all the luck with her training and look forward to her Paralympics debut in 2016.”
