Golf day raises £1000
October 19, 2011
A BARRY couple have raised more than £1,000 at a charity golf day in memory of their baby daughter.
David and Nicola Williams, of Merthyr Street, held a golf day, raffle and disco at St Andrews Major Golf Club in September, in memory of their daughter Sofia Jasmine, who died of the rare genetic condition Medium Chain Actyl Dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency in 2009.
All the money raised from the day will go towards the charity CLIMB, which helps families diagnosed with MCAD and other rare metabolic diseases.
The winning team were Will’s Warriors – made up of Will Hills, Paul Ogden, Alan Bannister and Gordon Young – who took home the Sofia Jasmine Williams Memorial Shield.
Scott Williams won the trophy for best individual stableford score, after coming in last place in the inaugural competition last year.
Raffle prizes, including a 32-inch television donated by Buy As You View (BAYV), helped boost the fundraising total to £1,000.
David Williams, 44, said: "I would like to say a massive thank you to all the people who came, and to BAYV for the TV prize.
"We are planning on doing it again in 2012, but maybe a bit earlier in the year, in July some time."
Nicola added: "The day was a lovely way to remember Sofia.
"We had people visiting from Yorkshire, the Rhondda and all over Barry to help us raise money. "I am so grateful to everyone who attended the tournament and to everyone who has helped raise money for the charity over the past two years."
The couple thanked St Andrew's Major Golf Club for hosting the day; chef Gareth for the food; Hair and Beauty Den, Bootylicious of Barry, Fun Harbour Snooker arcade and Buy As You View for donating prizes; and all friends and family.
