Buy As You View Supports Breast Cancer Care
November 27, 2009
WORK colleagues are turning pink to scale new heights to help Breast Cancer Care.
The team of six from household firm Buy As You View will be climbing five mountains this year starting with Pen y Fan, in the Brecon Beacons, on Sunday in the hope of raising £1,000 which will be matched by their employer.
The friends decided to do the gruelling feat for charity after they were touched by the plight of friends and loved ones suffering from the disease. Gareth Griffiths, 30, operations manager for Bridgend-based Buy As You View, said: “We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and it’s awful for them to be suffering like that.” “Once we’ve achieved Pen y Fan, we want to climb another mountain and then take on the three peaks later in the year.”
Gareth’s best friend, Anthony Harcombe, lost his wife Helen to breast cancer in 2004. Helen, of Porth, became known after writing a “mummy manual” to help her husband look after their little girl Ffion. “With my friend losing his wife at just 28 and with a young daughter, it really hits home,” said Gareth, of Trealaw. “When you see Ffion now growing up and looking so much like her mum, it’s heartbreaking.”
Also in the team is Buy As You View warehouse operative Rhys Jones, of Penygraig, whose mother has suffered with breast cancer, warehouse supervisor Darren O’Leary, of Penygraig, stock controller John O’Donaghue, of Ferndale, store man Lee Dury, of Treorchy, and spares administrator Lee Richards, of Beddau.
