Beddau RFC receives donation for trip to Canada

Leading retail and consumer finance company, Buy As You View has donated £500 to the Beddau RFC under 15’s rugby team to help fund their trip to Canada in June.

The team has been organising the trip for three years, with the aim of raising enough money to ensure that all 19 players can travel to Canada. The team has already raised the required £1,000 per player which covers flights and accommodation and the focus is now on raising funds to buy a new kit.

Players will be travelling to Toronto on June 18 where they will play two Canadian rugby teams during the eight night stay. The trip was especially important to team player’s dad, Chris Fowler, because Canada had always been a dream destination for him. Chris played a big part in inspiring the team to raise the money, but in 2010 he was diagnosed with lung cancer and after only 5 months, had passed away.

As a tribute to Chris and the Fowler family, the team will take Chris’s ashes to Canada where they will hold a memorial service for him at Niagara Falls.

Jeanette Fowler, Chris’s wife, said: “We are so grateful to Buy As You View for their generous donation and have decided to put the money towards new kit for the trip. The past three years have been really hectic, but the various fund raising events have helped keep everyone focused during such a devastating time. The boys have been bag packing in the local supermarket, have washed cars, organised a ladies night at the club house, produced and performed a Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs pantomime along with organising a St Davids Day ball which was a massive success.

“We are all really looking forward to Canada and can only wish that Chris could have shared this experience with us.”

Jeanette has been such a loyal customer for the past twenty years and we were delighted to offer a donation from our community fund. This fund allows us to give back to the communities where our colleagues and customers live by offering support to local causes and initiatives.”
